Key Measurements to Take

Before looking at a size chart, you'll need accurate body measurements. Use a cloth or paper measuring tape, keep it level, and don't pull it too tight or leave it too loose.

1. Chest (Circumference)

What to Measure: The fullest part of your chest or bust.

How: Wrap the tape measure under your armpits, across your shoulder blades, and over the fullest part of your chest/bust (usually across the nipples). Keep the tape level all the way around.

Fit Note: Leather jackets need to be a little larger than your body measurement to accommodate layers and movement. For a comfortable fit, you might need to select a jacket size that is 4-6 inches (10-15 cm) larger than your actual chest measurement. Always check the specific brand's sizing chart.

2. Shoulder (Width)

What to Measure: The width of your back across the shoulders.

How: Measure from the tip (or edge) of one shoulder, straight across your back, to the tip of your other shoulder.

3. Sleeve (Length)

What to Measure: The length from your shoulder to your wrist.

How: With your arm slightly bent (or relaxed at your side), measure from the shoulder seam/point down the outside of your arm to your wrist bone or where you want the sleeve cuff to end.

Alternative/Common Method: Some guides suggest measuring from the center back of your neck, across the shoulder, and down to your wrist. Check the seller's specific instructions.

4. Waist (Circumference)

What to Measure: Your natural waistline.

How: Bend to the side to find the natural crease (this is your natural waistline, usually above the belly button and below the rib cage). Measure the circumference around this narrowest part of your torso.

5. Hip (Circumference)

What to Measure: The fullest part of your hips and buttocks. This is important for jackets that extend to or past the hip.

How: Measure the circumference around the widest part of your hips and rear, ensuring the tape measure is level.

6. Length (Back Length)

What to Measure: The total length of the jacket from the neck down.

How: Measure down the center of your back, starting from the base of the collar (or the center back of the neck), straight down to where you want the jacket's hemline to end (e.g., at the waist, mid-hip, or top of the thigh).

Lambskin is an exceptionally wearable and soft leather. Its natural, lightweight layers give it a distinctive, velvety texture. Even though lambskin leather is thin and lightweight, it still does a good job of keeping out the cold, making it an ideal material for a leather down vest. Because of its delicate structure, lambskin is treated less harshly in production than cowhide and requires more hand manipulation.
